SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Sept. 1, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — An armed man surrendered to police and SWAT team officers after a foot chase and subsequent standoff that lasted about three hours on Friday.

It was not immediately revealed what prompted the police response to the area of about 500 South and 500 East in Salt Lake City. The man was in his mid-30s, Detective Richard Chipping told Gephardt Daily.

The suspect had been observed over a period of hours pointing a gun at himself. When he finally surrendered, he was taken into custody without incident, Chipping said.

Gephardt Daily will update with more information as it becomes available.
