WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, March 24, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Four people, including three members of a touring rap music group, were wounded in a drive-by shooting Saturday night in a Walmart Supercenter parking lot on 5600 West.

West Valley City Police Department tweeted that the rap group was traveling in a large recreational vehicle that was stopped in the parking lot at 3180 S. 5600 West.

WVCPD Lt. Amy Maurer said three people from the group were standing outside of the RV.

A vehicle that witnesses described as a smaller, red passenger car, possibly a Hyundai, drove up to the RV and there was some conversation between the people in the car and those from the RV, Maurer said.

Witnesses told police the red car left, then came southbound on 5600 West and several shots were fired toward the RV, Maurer said.

The three men from the group and a bystander were hit by gunfire.

The bystander was a 14-year-old girl who was going to Walmart with a family member and had stopped by the RV. She was shot in the hip.

WVC police tweeted that one of the men, a 36-year-old, was shot in the leg; a 23-year-old was shot in the buttocks; and a 22-year-old was shot in the abdomen.

A fourth member of the rap group, part of an act belonging to the Southern California based Crime Family Entertainment Company was inside the RV and was not injured.

According to WVCPD on Twitter, the three male victims left the scene in the RV and were located in the parking lot of a nearby school after the RV was apparently disabled by a flat tire.

West Valley City police converged on the large crime scene and worked to preserve any evidence and talk to possible witnesses as many shoppers were in the area at the time.

Investigators on scene are looking into whether this incident may be gang-related.

They are working to obtain surveillance video from area businesses, as well as video from Walmart.

All four individuals who were shot are in stable condition, Maurer said.

Gephardt Daily has a crew on scene and will update this developing story as information becomes available.
