SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Sept. 2, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — One person was killed instantly and two others were hospitalized in serious condition Friday night after a wrong-way driver on Interstate 215 collided with another vehicle.

A Utah Highway Patrol trooper doing a slow down on Interstate 15 northbound looked in his rear-view mirror at about 11 p.m. and saw that a blue Honda Civic had turned around and was driving against traffic. Several troopers were on their way to intercept the vehicle.

Within a few minutes, reports came in of a wrong-way vehicle crash on I-215 westbound at 300 West. The Honda had taken the ramp to I-215, and was headed east in the westbound lanes when it struck a yellow Toyota FJ cruiser, according to a statement by the Utah Highway Patrol.

The driver of the Honda was killed instantly, and the driver and passenger of the Toyota were taken to the Intermountain Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries.

Detective are investigating alcohol as a possible factor in the accident.
