UTAH COUNTY, Utah, May 23, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — According to multiple media outlets, the search for missing Provo woman Elizabeth Salgado has come to a tragic end.
The Utah County Sheriff’s Office is declining to confirm or deny that a body discovered Friday in Hobble Creek Canyon is that of Salgado, who was 26 when she went missing from Provo in 2015.
The Utah County Sheriff’s Office announced late Wednesday that it is scheduling a news conference at 10 a.m. Thursday.
“Sheriff Tracy, UCSO, and Chief Ferguson, Provo PD, will make statements regarding a local missing person case. The FBI will also participate. They will also take questions.”
According to reports from the Deseret News and KSL, both owned by a branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — a report from the Medical Examiner has confirmed the remains as those of Salgado, a native of Mexico who converted to the LDS Church and who moved to Utah to study English and practice her faith.
Since Salgado had no car, her body being found in Hobble Creek Canyon would mean she was given a ride to that location, and her death was likely a homicide.
