Collision involving Unified Police car sends child, woman to hospitals after South Jordan accident

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah, Jan. 25, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A collision involving a Unified Police car has sent a young boy to the hospital by medical helicopter and his mother by ground ambulance.

The accident happened at about 4:05 p.m. at the intersection of 11400 South and Bangerter Highway.

A car was travelling northbound on Bangerter Highway and was turning left on a red light trying to go west on 11400 South. The car was hit by a southbound UPD patrol vehicle, driven by an off-duty Unified police officer, who had the right-of-way, officials added.

The boy in the car, who was between 8 and 10 years old, was taken by medical helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital with very serious injuries, South Jordan police officials said.

The mother was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The Unified Police officer only received minor injuries and did not need to be transported.

Eastbound and westbound lanes at the intersection are closed, the Utah Department of Transportation tweeted. Southbound lanes of Bangerter were also closed at 10400 South.
