MIDVALE, Utah, Jan. 19, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The I-15 corridor has reopened in both directions after being closed for several hours in the wake a massive fire involving a tanker truck carrying thousands of gallons of gasoline.

The two far right lanes on southbound Interstate 15 at 7200 South remained closed Friday morning, but opened in the afternoon after repairs were made. All lanes, including the HOV lane between 5400 South and 9000 South, are open to traffic.

The spectacular fire broke out about 7:15 p.m., when a semi-truck hauling 2 tankers filled with thousands of gallons of fuel experienced brake problems.

The driver realized the vehicle was on fire and managed to escape before the tanks exploded.

There were no reports of injuries.

Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Todd Royce said the tankers carried 9,000 gallons of gasoline and 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel.
