SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, June 7, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Two males have been shot and two others are in custody after a Thursday morning incident police believe is gang-related.

Police responded to the area on a call of “shots fired” near the Jordan River Parkway just after 9 a.m., then heard additional shots that led them to the area of 500 N. Redwood Road.

The victims, males believed to be in their late teens or early 20s, were found outside a residence. One was critically injured and the other was in fair condition, said Sgt. Brandon Shearer, Salt Lake Police Department. The two were transported to a hospital.

“It appears we have what could have been a home invasion of some kind,” Shearer said. “There was three witnesses here at the scene, as well as a witness that followed a vehicle leaving the area, pursuing it to the area of 1700 N. Redwood Road before losing it.

“We were able to later locate two individuals who had been in that vehicle, and they were found in that area, on foot,” Shearer said.

“So we do have two suspects in custody at this time, and we are also trying to determine if there may have been anyone else involved.”

The two in custody are also in their late teens to early 20s, Shearer said.

Police remained on the scene to process evidence and await a search warrant that would allow them into the house. The evidence included the door, which appeared to be forced open, and shell casings going down the street, Shearer said.

“It does appear this is gang-related,” he said.

This is a developing story. Gephardt Daily will have more information as it becomes available.
