DRAPER, Utah, Jan. 30, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are now saying a 15-year-old Draper boy was hospitalized after being stabbed as a result of a domestic violence situation and there was no attempted burglary or intruder dressed in black as previously reported.
Draper police spokesperson Sgt. Chad Carpenter updated the information about the 5:30 a.m. incident Tuesday just after 9:30 a.m. to say that there was no suspect on the loose, as officials had previously said.
The incident started out as a domestic violence situation between a Draper husband and wife, Carpenter amended, and when the woman’s son intervened, the teen’s stepfather stabbed him. The teen is still in an area hospital, police said.
Carpenter added the family initially told a “bogus” story to the police department.
Carpenter initially told Gephardt Daily at the scene that officers were called to a home, at 1642 E. Pioneer Road at about 5:30 a.m. on reports of an attempted burglary.
Moments later, they received an additional call that a male suspect dressed in black had made his way into the home and had stabbed the 15-year-old boy in the neck and shoulder after being confronted by the teen and his father.
The assailant ran from the house and disappeared into the surrounding neighborhood, the family told police.
Police set up a wide containment perimeter, but could not find the supposed “suspect.”
Officers said the teen appeared to be in serious condition as he was taken to the hospital, but was able to talk to detectives.
