PROVO, Utah, April 13, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The family of Elizabeth Salgado, who disappeared nearly three years ago in Provo, is hoping the public might come forward with new leads in the case.
Salgado was 26 on April 16, 2015, when she walked home from a language school, had been in America for only a few weeks. A native of Mexico, Salgado had moved to Provo after converting to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
“It’s been very devastating,” her uncle, Rosemberg Salgado, told reporters Friday at a news conference aimed at drawing attention and possibly new leads in the case.
“My father died because of the stress that we couldn’t find her. My sister, I mean her health is deteriorating. She can’t even sleep anymore.”
Also there to speak was Ed Smart, whose daughter, Elizabeth, was kidnapped in 2002, and survived. The Smarts have spoken out before on behalf of the Salgados, to draw attention to the case.
Sgt. Nisha King, spokeswoman for the Provo Police Department, said the case remains open.
“It is ongoing and we follow all leads worldwide,” she said. “We still suspect someone has knowledge about her.”
The Provo Police Department recently assigned a new detective to the case, hoping for a fresh perspective and ideas, she said.
A $50,000 reward has been offered in the case.
