SPANISH FORK, Utah March 16, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The driver of a northbound pickup truck was killed early Friday morning on I-15 when his vehicle rolled across the median into southbound traffic and was hit by a semi-truck.

UHP Lt. Todd Royce told Gephardt Daily the driver of the pickup – identified only as a male Utah County resident believed to be in his fifties – lost control of the vehicle near mile marker 253 about 5:43 a.m. His truck then veered off the highway and into the cable-barrier causing it to roll.

The truck came to rest on the southbound lanes of I-15 only to be hit by the semi-truck which Lt. Royce said was driving at normal highway speeds.

A medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene, but the driver passed away at the scene.

The driver of the semi-truck was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Southbound lanes of I-15 were closed throughout the morning rush-hour.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
