Nov. 4 (UPI) — German automaker BMW announced Friday it is recalling 1.4 million vehicles in North America over fire risks.

The company issued two recalls with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The first affects some 740,000 vehicles, including the 1-, 3- and 5-Series, Z4, X3 and X5 from model years 2007-11. These vehicles may develop a rusty crankcase ventilation valve, posing a fire risk.

The second recall is for about 673,000 vehicles, which have faulty heating and air conditioning wiring. Electrical connectors on these vehicles can melt and cause a fire.

At least three injuries are related to the faulty mechanics.

Dealerships are expected to begin repairs on the vehicles starting Dec. 18.
