Tire Maintenance - Gephardt Daily

Old, Bald, and TIRED

There is a lot of maintenance that goes into keeping your car running correctly and in the safest way. The one thing that we want to talk about is the tires. Many people don’t realize that tires are a huge part of keeping your car in great condition.

Here are the top 5 factors we want to share with you about tire maintenance that are most commonly missed:

Tire Pressure:

Make sure that your tire pressure is always inflated properly. About fifteen percent of drivers don’t know how to properly check the pressure in their tires. To make sure that your tires have the correct amount of air, also known as PSI (Pounds Per Square Inch) in the tire all you have to do is look on the side of your tire and it will have a double digit number on it. That number is the maximum amount of air that your tire can hold. Each vehicle make and model will have a different PSI for the vehicle. You can find that on the inside of your driver side door. Bad tire pressure can lead to unnecessary tire stress irregular wear and even accidents.

Tread Wear:

Try to keep your tires inflated for proper wear and traction. Check for high and low areas of tread, unusual wear can reduce the ability of tread to grip the road. If you want to check the tire tread get a quarter or a penny and turn it upside down. If the presidents head is being covered at all then your tread is good. If not then I would consider looking for some new tires.

Spare Tires:

Spare tires need to have good tire pressure and also good traction. Inspect the tire for damages and punctures before you put it in your car or decide to use it. Also remember that a spare tire is just a temporary solution that should be used only to get you to a service station.

Price Doesn’t Equal Quality:

Always make sure that you are working with a qualified sales associate when you are picking out the tires and also the spare tire that are going to get you where you need to go.

Tire Expiration:

The last question that a lot of people ask is whether or not there is an expiration date on the tires. We got our answer from the Rubber Manufacturers Association of America. They stated that there is no expiration date.
