March 14 (UPI) — CBS announced a new series, a comedy about 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper called “Young Sheldon,” will debut in the 2017-2018 season.

Jim Parsons plays grown-up Sheldon on the network’s hit sitcom “The Big Bang Theory.”

The spinoff, “Young Sheldon,” is set to debut in the fall with Iain Armitage playing the title character.

Created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro, the new show will follow Sheldon as a child living with his family in East Texas and going to high school.

Jon Favreau is directing/executive producing the first episode, and Parsons will narrate the series as the adult Sheldon.
