HOLLYWOOD, Calif., April 21, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Matt Damon returns to the role of Jason Bourne, in the new espionage/thriller “Jason Bourne.”

The film is directed by Paul Greengrass, the director of “The Bourne Supremacy” and “The Bourne Ultimatum.” The new movie takes place a dozen years after the events in “Ultimatum.”

“There’s been the financial collapse, the great recession, all these issues of cyber warfare and civil liberties,” Damon has said of Bourne’s hiatus. “We find him in a dark and tortured place.”

For “Jason Bourne,” Damon is joined by Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel and Tommy Lee Jones, while Julia Stiles reprises her role in the series.

Frank Marshall again produces alongside Jeffrey Weiner for Captivate Entertainment, and Greengrass, Damon, Gregory Goodman and Ben Smith also produce.

Based on characters created by Robert Ludlum, the film is written by Greengrass and Christopher Rouse.

“Jason Bourne” will hit theaters July 29.
