July 20 (UPI) — Chester Bennington, the frontman of the Grammy-award winning band Linkin Park, died in an apparent suicide at his home in California, law enforcement said. He was 41.
Police told TMZ his body was discovered before 9 a.m. Thursday at his residence in Palos Verdes Estates in Los Angeles County. Police confirmed the report to Variety.
Bennington struggled with drug and alcohol abuse throughout his life. He previously told friends he considered suicide over physical abuse as a child, TMZ reported.
In addition to Linkin Park, Bennington provided vocals for the bands Dead by Sunrise, Stone Temple Pilots and live cover band Bucket of Weenies.
Linkin Park won two Grammys: for Best Hard Rock Performance for “Crawling” in 2002 and for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “Numb/Encore” with Jay-Z in 2006.
Bennington is survived by his wife, Talinda Bentley, and six children.
Linkin Park released the album “One More Light” earlier this year. Hours before the news of Bennington’s death, the band released a new video for a song off the album, “Talking to Myself.”
And the lives of his wife and children are forever changed.
