Hootie & The Blowfish, which made its network television debut nearly 21 years ago when it performed on the show Sept. 2, 1994, will provide the evening’s musical entertainment.

“The first lady has been interviewed by Letterman twice — on Aug. 29, 2012 and March 19, 2012,” CBS noted in a news release. “Also, she presented the ‘Top Ten Reasons to Watch the Democratic National Convention’ on Sept. 5, 2012, and the ‘Top Ten Fun Facts about Gardening’ on June 5, 2012.”

As previously announced, Letterman will retire as host of Late Show May 20. Stephen Colbert will then take over as the program’s star.
