AUCKLAND, New Zealand, March 16 (UPI) — Natalia Kills and husband Willy Moon have been fired from The X Factor.

The 28-year-old singer and 25-year-old musician debuted as judges on the New Zealand reality competition’s second season premiere Sunday, and were let go after harshly criticizing contestant Joe Irvine.

“As an artist who respects creative integrity and intellectual property, I am disgusted at how much you have copied my husband,” Kills said of Irvine’s look. “From the hair to the suit, do you not have any value or respect for originality?”

Kills went on to call the contestant a “laughing stock” with a “cheesy” and “disgusting” appearance before declaring, “I am embarrassed to be sitting here in your presence having to even dignify you with an answer of my opinion.”

Moon also slammed Irvine, saying: “It feels just a bit cheap and absurd. I mean, it’s like Norman Bates dressing up in his mother’s clothing. It’s just a little bit creepy and I feel like you’re going to stitch someone’s skin to your face and then kill everyone in the audience.”

MediaWorks CEO Mark Weldon confirmed Kills and Moon were fired in a statement Monday, calling the couple’s comments “completely unacceptable” and a “destructive tirade.” The pair will be replaced by two new judges next week.

Kills came to fame as an actress, and released her first studio album, Perfectionist, in 2011. The singer last debuted Trouble in 2013, while Moon has released one record, Here’s Willy Moon. The couple married in May 2014.
