LONDON, October 25, 2015 —  (UPI) — Scottish actor Peter Capaldi is to continue playing the titular time-traveler in Doctor Who for a third season.

“Peter has made it clear he is happy playing the Doctor for as long as the BBC — and viewers — want him,” a network source told The Mirror. “We are very happy with him and viewers are also warming to him.”

The newspaper said the actor has signed on for another year, with an additional one-year option.

Capaldi, 57, is now in his second season as the star of the sci-fi show. He became the 12th actor to play the role after Matt Smith departed in 2013.
