April 19 (UPI) — Richard Simmons was hospitalized Monday for “severe indigestion.”

The 68-year-old fitness guru’s rep, Michael Catalano, told ABC News Simmons is “feeling better” after seeking treatment for gastrointestinal issues at a California hospital.

“Richard Simmons was hospitalized on Monday at an undisclosed location in California,” Catalano said. “After a few days of battling severe indigestion and discomfort while eating, we agreed it was best for him to seek treatment.”

“He’s already feeling better and is expected to make a full recovery,” he added.

TMZ reported Simmons didn’t require an ambulance and was well enough to be driven to the hospital. The star was previously hospitalized in June after reportedly exhibiting erratic behavior, but later told Us Weekly he was “dehydrated.”

Simmons’ hospitalization this week follows concern about the star’s disappearance from the public eye. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed in March that Simmons is not being held hostage by his housekeeper, Teresa Reveles.

“The fact of the matter is we went out and talked to him,” Det. Kevin Becker told People. “He is fine, nobody is holding him hostage. He is doing exactly what he wants to do. If he wants to go out in public or see anybody he will do that.”

“He is perfectly fine and he is very happy,” he added. “I don’t know what he is going to do, but right now he is doing what he wants to do and it is his business.”
