SALT LAKE CITY, July 30, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Allison Dayne Smith is quite the busy performer.

Last year, she wowed audiences with her original one-woman theatrical work “Scorch,” a multimedia performance about losing everything and rising to overcome tragedy.

Dayne Smith, who at the ripe old age of 22, has recently graduated with honors from Westminster College’s Theatrical Department, has worked and studied comedy with Chicago’s famous Second City, and has penned several original works.

While attending classes, Dayne Smith founded the theatrical performing group “Leading Ladies” to spotlight original works by women and create original and unique film, sketch and theatre experiences.

In a few weeks, Dayne Smith will be attending masters classes in Georgia, and most likely will find herself in Hollywood pursuing a professional career after that.

Currently, you can catch Allison in two very different productions. The first is a children’s theater presentation of Maurice Sendak’s “Where the Wild Things Are,” which will include a lot of audience participation.

“When you come in with your cute little ‘wild things,’ you will be able to sit down and have a brown paper bag and you can actually decorate that brown paper bag to become a wild thing,” Dayne Smith explained. “And then you can use that ‘wild thing’ in the show because we are expecting our audience to become involved.”

“Where the Wild Things Are” will have two free performances July 30 at 11 a.m. and August 2 at 2 p.m. in the Sprague Library, located at 2131 S. 1100 East in Salt Lake City.

Dayne Smith is also performing an original work of adult fairy tales at this year’s Great Salt Lake Fringe Festival.

The work, which is entitled “Fed-Up Fairy Tales,” takes classic fairy tales and twists them a bit by adding comical adult themes to them.

“We were reading a lot of fairy tales and we realized we hated how they ended,” the actress explained. “What do you mean Sleeping Beauty just sleeps and then wakes up married? That just sounds like kidnapping!”

“Fed-Up Fairy Tales” will be performed July 30 at 11 p.m. and Aug. 5 at 11 p.m. at The Forge Theater,  2234 E. Highland Drive.
