Sundance: What Are Gift Suites?

Gift Suites are a growing presence at Sundance and even though Robert Redford has said that he is a bit embarrassed by the influx of gifted goods, it’s not a trend that’s going away any time soon. Gift Suites are considered to be one of the most effective methods of launching a whole new brand or perhaps a new product, by getting the product into the hands of celebrities and other powerful people. Celebrities are introduced to clothing trends, jewelry, electronics, gadgets, travel resorts, VIP concierge services, gourmet catering, exotic cocktails, and other items.

Bill tried OJ+, which is orange juice plus caffeine. He spoke with Ricardo, the man behind OJ+. “It’s got caffeine in, to give you more energy in the morning,” Ricardo said. “It’s like two cups of coffee per bottle.”

Examples of swag given to celebrities at past gift suites include a 70” Element Electronics flat screen TV given to stars such as Paris Hilton and”Mad Men” actress Alison Brie. James Franco and Naomi Watts have been treated to Samsung Galaxy Note tablets.

Free snowboards and sunglasses and boots have been popular swag items, and in 2013 Celebrities could choose from an array of boot styles, which usually retail from $100-$200. Other perks also have included open bars ranging with items ranging from beers to Emergen-C to Cream of Wheat.

Obviously, it pays to be a celebrity.
