NEW YORK, Aug. 1 (UPI) — Will Smith said on “The Tonight Show” that his son Jaden Smith got the whole family to vacation in England so that he could drink alcohol.

Smith, who appeared on the late night show Thursday, told host Jimmy Fallon how Jaden invited the Smith family to join him in the U.K. as he promoted his upcoming Netflix series “The Get Down” in London and to celebrate his 18th birthday.

“I was like, ‘Wow,” like that’s cool,” the actor said. “So we go and hang out for his birthday and I’m like, ‘Man, that’s really good. He wanted his family with him.’ ”

The “Suicide Squad” star, however, was unaware that the legal drinking age in England is 18. “And then we go to a restaurant … and Jaden was just particularly excited and we sit down and he looked at the waiter and says, ‘I’ll have a tequila,'” Will recalls about the real reason why the family was overseas.

“”I said ‘Woah, woah man. Hold up. What [are] you doing? and [Jaden] says, ‘The drinking age is 18 in England dad.'”

“I was like, ‘You joker!’ ” Will continued about the exchange. “I was thinking fast. I said, ‘Oh, but hold on on, hold on. It’s only noon in L.A. and you weren’t born ’til 4, so you’re not 18 yet!'”
