1 dead, 1 wounded in West Valley City shooting

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, July 9, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — One person is dead and another wounded after an early morning shooting Sunday in West Valley City.

Lt. Steve Katz of West Valley City PD told Gephardt Daily multiple police units were called to the scene at 4274 W. 4695 South about 2 a.m. with reports of shots fired.

When officers arrived, they found a male who had been shot to death in the backyard of the residence.

A second male was found wounded and rushed to an area hospital. The extent of his injuries was unknown.

Investigators had detained at least two people for questioning, but said they had yet to determine their possible roles in the shootings.

The West Valley City Major Crime Unit was on the scene and expected to work throughout the night and well into the day Sunday.
