16-year-old girl dies after 100-foot fall Santaquin Canyon

SANTAQUIN CANYON, Utah, June 18, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 16-year-old girl died after falling approximately 100 feet in Santaquin Canyon Monday morning.

The teen was hiking near a waterfall approximately four miles up the canyon when she fell, Utah County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Spencer Cannon tweeted at 10:30 a.m.

Cannon initially said the girl had suffered serious injuries and was in extremely critical condition.

Utah County Sheriff’s Office deputies, UCSO search and rescue, Santaquin deputies and ambulance and AirMed all responded to the scene.

Attempts to save the girl, including CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator, were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The teen’s name has not been released pending notification of family members.

The sequence of events leading up to the fall have not yet been released by authorities.
