LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah, Aug. 13, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A 17-year-old boy was killed when he fell off a cliff in Little Cottonwood Canyon on Saturday morning.

According to Salt Lake County Sheriff Jim Winder, the teenager — identified as James Wade — was hiking with family members in the Lisa Falls area at about 10:30 a.m. when he struck out alone ahead of the group.

When he did not return, family members called 911.

A Department of Public Safety helicopter was called in to search for the teen, although his body was ultimately spotted early Saturday evening by a camera-mounted drone.

Search and rescue teams managed to recover the teen’s body just before 10 p.m.
