SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, April 9, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) – Eight vehicles were involved in a crash at the on-ramp of Interstate 80 at N. Wright Brothers Drive (4800 West) Sunday morning due to icy conditions.

The incident happened at mile post 114 at the on-ramp to eastbound I-80 at approximately 8 a.m. The road was reopened by 9 a.m.

Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Scott Attridge said a vehicle rolled over on the ramp, and drivers behind attempted to slow down, but due to the bridge icing over, seven vehicles were unable to stop and crashed behind the rolled vehicle.

The ramp was closed until the vehicles could be moved and salt put down on the road.

No one was seriously injured; medical checked out the woman whose vehicle rolled on scene, but she did not need to be transported to the hospital.

Attridge said the incident is a good reminder for drivers to remember that winter driving rules still apply.

“We just ask people to try and be aware that the main freeway roads might be clear but the bridges still have the chance of icing over,” he said. ”

This is a bad spot especially when cars start crashing. Please just slow down and be aware of ramps and bridges.”
