Man booked for attempted homicide after botched robbery of Mexican restaurant in SLC

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 9, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A 19-year-old man has been booked into jail for attempted homicide and aggravated robbery after he demanded money from employees at a Salt Lake City Mexican restaurant.

The attempted robbery occurred at Angelito Mexican Restaurant at 1625 W. 700 North Friday just after 9:30 p.m., according to a news release from the Salt Lake City Police Department.

Three employees were in the process of closing the restaurant when the suspect, Said Ahmed Hirsi, entered the rear door of the restaurant, brandished a gun and demanded cash.

One of the employees tried to physically disarm the suspect. A struggle ensued and a shot was fired. The three employees were able to successfully disarm and subdue the suspect until police arrived.

The three employees were not injured in the altercation.

Hirsi received some lacerations during the incident and was treated by medical on scene, then booked into jail for attempted homicide and aggravated robbery.
