RICH COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 20, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A Box Elder County man died after his dirt bike crashed head-on into a side-by-side off-road vehicle Saturday evening near Bear Lake, officials said.

Brad Williams, 46, died when his dirt bike collided with the side-by-side at approximately 8:35 p.m., two miles up the South Eden Canyon, on the east side of Bear Lake, according to a news release from the Rich County Sheriff’s Office.

“A large family outing was happening with people camping in the South Eden Campground,” the news release said. “A group of riders were out on the trails and it was starting to get dark. Members of the group were getting worried and went to search for the group of riders.”

The man and woman on the side-by-side were traveling on a trail searching for the group when one of the late riders, Williams, rode toward them on the trail. The side-by-side and the dirt bike collided, head-on.

Shelby Secrist, 37, the man who was on the side-by-side, was transported by medical helicopter to an Ogden hospital. Jerri Inman, 45, the woman on the side-by-side, was transported by ground ambulance to a Logan hospital. Secrist and Inman are also from Box Elder County.

The incident is being investigated jointly by Utah State Parks and the Rich County Sheriff’s Office.
