The Farmington City Police Department has issued a warning statement to residents regarding a jury duty scam for which they have received numerous calls about in the past week.

Residents are receiving calls stating that they did not appear for jury duty and Farmington City Police are requiring them to send $500 (or some other amount), via a Green Dot card they purchase at Walgreens, immediately or they will be taken to jail.

This is not true. Failure to appear for jury duty is issued by the court and before any payment is requested it has to be verified they actually received the subpoena and appear in court. Any required payments would be made directly to the court they failed to appear in.

Farmington City Police does not collect fines nor do they arrest on failure to appear for jury duty unless issued by the Court. If anyone receives a call they can call 801-451-5453 to verify. These scams are not traceable and any money sent will most likely be unrecoverable.

Please protect yourself and remember to never give anyone who calls you account numbers, social security numbers or any other personal information.
