WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Feb. 9, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are investigating after a body was found in the Jordan River in West Valley City Thursday.

A Salt Lake County surveyor found the body near 1200 West and 3300 South at approximately 10 a.m., Sam Johnson, strategic communications director for West Valley City, told Gephardt Daily.

Johnson said it appears the body is an adult male, but because the deceased person has been in the water for some time, investigators have not been able to establish the gender for sure.

The cause of death is also unknown at this point.

The body has been released to the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner, who will work to identify the body and the cause of death.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
