BOUNTIFUL, Utah, May 20, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Crews responded to reports of a fire at an apartment complex in Bountiful Saturday night.

The fire broke out in the second story hallway of Meadows West apartment complex at 1450 N. 285 East. It was reported just before midnight, South Davis Metro Fire Chief Jeff Bassett told Gephardt Daily.

“When our units arrived, they were met by residents who were self-evacuating, saying there was smoke in the hallway but that nobody knew why,” Bassett said. “Our firefighters went inside and they didn’t encounter any fire, but there was some smoke. As they were working their way up to that second level, one of the people that live here said there had been a small fire in the hallway.”

The resident told crews he had used an extinguisher on the fire, which created a lot of dust.

Residents were then let back into their apartments and there was no structural damage, Bassett said.

He added that one man either breathed in the dust from the fire extinguisher or the smoke, or maybe a combination of both, and had some breathing problems. He was transported to a Bountiful hospital to be checked out.

Bassett said investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
