Bountiful police seek leads after woman’s assault in cemetery

BOUNTIFUL, Utah, May 9, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The Bountiful Police Department is asking for the public’s help with leads in an assault case last month at the Lakeview Cemetery.

In a social media post Wednesday, police said that at about 10:20 p.m. on April 27, a Friday, they responded to the scene just outside the cemetery, on the sidewalk of Bountiful Boulevard.

A 33-year-old woman reported she was assaulted by an unknown man while walking in the cemetery. She reported that he had run west after the attack. Two people nearby told police they had heard the assault, but did not see the suspect.

A search by police and K-9s did not locate the suspect, who the victim described as a Polynesian man in his early 20s, who stood about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighed about 270 pounds. He had chin-length hair and untrimmed facial hair, and was wearing a black T-shirt and jeans torn at the knees, the police statement says.

The victim had multiple minor injuries consistent with an attack. She was treated at a local hospital and released.

Anyone with information is asked to contact dispatch at 801-298-6000 or contact the police department through social media.
