2 Dead After Box Elder County Rollover, Ejection

BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah, July 25, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Two men are dead after a pickup truck rolled in Box Elder County Monday morning.

The Utah Highway Patrol said in a news release that at about 7:30 a.m., a Chevrolet pickup truck, occupied by five males, was westbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 13.

For an unknown reason, driver James Gates, 29, from Kearns, drifted to the left, into the median, then over-corrected to the right. The vehicle veered to the left a second time, rolling through the median, and into the eastbound lanes.

The vehicle came to rest blocking both eastbound lanes. Gent and passenger Daymon Smith, 22, from Kearns, were ejected. Gent and Smith were not were wearing seatbelts, and both men died from their injuries.

The other occupants in the vehicle were transported to the local hospital. They are expected to survive.
