Boy, 6, drowns during family gathering in Utah County

SPANISH FORK, Utah, June 10, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A family gathering turned into a tragedy Saturday, when a child drowned in Spanish Oaks Reservoir in Utah County.

According to a news release from Spanish Fork Police Department, officers were dispatched at about 4:26 p.m. to the reservoir, 2599 S. Spanish Oaks Drive, where a 6-year-old boy was reported missing.

He had been playing with other children on the beach and was last seen about 15 minutes before the family called police, the release states.

Patrol officers, Fire Department and EMS personnel, and Utah County Search and Rescue responded. They, along with other people at the reservoir, started checking the area. The boy was found at about 5:06 p.m. in approximately five feet of water in the area where he was last seen playing.

He was transported by ambulance to Mountain View Hospital, where medical personnel attempted to revive him, but he succumbed to the drowning.

The boy was from North Dakota. His identity is not being released pending notification of family members.
