PAROWAN,Utah, June 28, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Authorities are investigating after a female suspect was shot by a law officer in Parowan.

The woman’s injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to a statement issued by the Iron County Sheriff’s Office. She was taken to the Cedar City Hospital for treatment.

The incident happened at about 11:35 a.m. Thursday when officers from Parowan and Enoch police departments responded to a report of car burglars at Parowan Travel America, at 1150 N. 100 West.

The officers at first encountered a male and female suspect, and confronted them. At some point, an altercation broke out and the woman was shot. Her name and age have not yet been released. No officers were injured, the sheriff’s statement says.

The man at the scene was taken into custody, and is being booked into the Iron County Jail. That man, Jose Flores, 34, will be booked on one count of possession of a stolen vehicle and two counts of burglary of a vehicle.

A third suspect who appeared at some point, another male, fled the scene. Officials put out descriptions of what the missing suspect looked like and was wearing.

Just after 6 p.m., Iron County Sheriff’s Lt. Del Schlosser confirmed to Gephardt Daily that the missing suspect had been taken into custody minutes earlier. His name will be released after he is booked into jail.

Schlosser declined to say whether the officer who fired shots was from the Parowan or the Enoch police department.
