UPDATE: OGDEN, UTAH – MAY 6, 2015 4:40 p.m. – According to Weber County Sheriff Lt. Lane Findlay there was never any official missing persons report filed for Amber Lyne Smith, 23, of Ogden whose body was found by a mountain biker on Monday morning.

“I have seen where friends or family members have disputed this and are telling others that she was reported missing however detectives over the case have yet to find any report,” said Findlay. “It maybe a case where they assumed a family member had taken care of filing the report or a friend but no one actually came down to the police station or called to report her missing.”

Findlay admits that it is a little strange they do not have any report on file and is hoping for more answers as the detectives continue with their investigation. “She has family and close friends in Ogden but we are not sure of how many so that makes it a little harder at the moment but we are hoping for some answers very soon,” said Findlay.

Amber Lyne Smith of Ogden City was last seen around April 1st, from what detectives have been able to gather from those who seen her last. She did have a roommate and family in the area and from what they can tell that is about the right time line from everyone.

She lived in the area where her body was found and was known to occasionally go hiking.

Investigators are asking for anyone with information about their last contact with Smith to come forward. They are also seeking the public’s help if anyone saw her on the foothills or trails around the first part of April. Please contact Detective CamilleColvin at (801)778-6638, if you have any information that would help with our investigation.

Smith’s death is considered suspicious and the investigation remains ongoing.

The body was discovered Monday morning around 1500 N. Mountain Road by a man who was riding his mountain bike in the area.

Police said the body appeared to have been there for quite some time.
