West Jordan Police Investigate Alleged Child Abduction

WEST JORDAN, UTAH – September 22, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Police are asking the public’s help in finding a young girl believed to have been abducted from a busy West Jordan street Sunday afternoon. So far, the police department has no leads to go on.

According to West Jordan City Public Information Officer Michael Harvie, police were called to the area of 7800 South Redwood Road at 5:58 p.m. with reports of a girl being forced into an SUV by a man, allegedly with a gun.

A 13-year-old girl had called 911 to report she had witnessed an abduction. The complainant reported that she had seen a red Ford SUV pull to the side of the roadway at 7733 South Redwood Road next to where a female was sitting.

The complainant further stated that the male driver yelled at the victim and ordered her to get inside the vehicle. The victim refused. The male subject got out of his vehicle, with what the witness believed was a handgun in his hand and forced the victim into his vehicle. The suspect vehicle then left the area in an unknown direction.

The victim was initially reported to be an approximately 12-year-old female. During a follow-up interview with the witness detectives determined that the actual age of the victim is not known. The victim was described as having long blond hair wearing blue mid-thigh shorts, a pink beanie cap, and a gray jacket.

The suspect was described as being an approximately 40-year-old male with tan skin and short black hair. He was reportedly wearing a bright colored shirt, and gray or black shorts.

The suspect vehicle was described as a red Ford SUV with front end damage. It was also reported to have gray or silver striping down the side.

INVESTIGATIVE ACTION TAKEN

  •  Detectives from the West Jordan Police Department have canvassed the area for any camera footage that captured any relevant information. No videos or pictures of the incident were located.
  •  A bulletin was sent out to law enforcement agencies statewide that contains the suspect, vehicle, and victim information.
  •  Surrounding agencies were contacted in reference to any cases that could be linked to this incident. No related cases have been found.
  •  The description of the victim has been cross-referenced to any runaways or missing persons in the area. No possible matches have been found.
  •  School administrations and staff have been questioned about any missing or at-risk students. No information was discovered.
  •  The incident was posted on social media in an effort to obtain assistance from the public that will help with this investigation. No relevant information has yet been received.
