UPDATE: 16-Year-Old Girl Killed In Provo Crash Identified

PROVO, Utah, April 16, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A teenage girl who was killed in a Provo traffic accident Friday night has been identified.

River Ackley, 16, was fatally injured around 7:30 p.m. near 1500 W. Center St., when the black GMC Yukon she was in was hit by a silver Dodge Ram pickup, which police say ran a red light.

The Yukon careened off the Dodge Ram and struck a light pole on the rear passenger’s door, killing Ackley and injuring three others inside the vehicle.

Colby Cook, Ackley’s uncle, has set up a GoFundMe for the family. In a post on the page he said his niece will be remembered and cherished by all for her contagious smile and happiness.

Ackley’s brother Cayden Ackley said on his Facebook there were be a candlelight vigil Saturday night at 8 p.m. at Pleasant Grove High School, 700 E. 200 South.

Initial reports said the driver of the Dodge Ram may have been looking at a GPS device at the time of the crash, although police say their investigation is ongoing.
