COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah, Feb. 15, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A smoking engine turned into an inferno on wheels early Monday evening in Cottonwood Heights.

According to Cpt. Dan Brown, of the Unified Fire Authority, a driver smelled smoke in his vehicle while traveling in the area of 7000 South and 2300 East on Monday evening, and pulled into the parking lot of a retail area.

“It kept getting worse and worse, then it caught fire,” Brown said.

The driver exited the car before fire fully engulfed the vehicle.

Then, after fire destroyed the car and the parking brake mechanism, the Volkswagon, started rolling down an incline, toward the street.

The car rolled about 150 feet, Brown said, then it struck a brick sign that stopped it from entering traffic.

Brown said his department arrived and easily put out the fire easily. No one was hurt in the in the incident, but the car was totaled.

“It burned up pretty good,” Brown said.
