CASPER, WYOMING, Dec. 10, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — A 23-year-old Vernal man was killed in a head-on collision between two commercial trucks Wednesday just outside of Casper, Wyoming.

According to Wyoming Highway Patrol Sgt. David Wagener, the accident happened at 6:30 a.m. on Wyoming State Highway 220 when Brody Phillips of Vernal was driving a 2015 Mack commercial truck and trailer traveling east crossed into the westbound lane and struck a Freightliner commercial truck head-on.

Both Phillips and the driver of the Freightliner, Vernice Rayvon, 63, of Killeen, Texas, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The crash caused the closure of U.S Highway 220 in both directions for several hours.

The investigation is ongoing and Sgt. Wagener said it is not known why Phillips veered into oncoming traffic.

Officials have also not determined any contributing factors.
