Man arrested after crashing car in SLC community college parking lot, fleeing on foot

Officers located suspect, Deng Koyom, 33, and booked him into jail for DUI, hit and run, fleeing

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 6, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A man is in custody after he fled from Salt Lake City police in his car, crashed into two concrete barriers, a traffic sign and a tree in a community college parking lot, then ran on foot from officers.

Officers located suspect, Deng Koyom, 33, and booked him into jail for DUI, hit and run, fleeing and driving on a denied license.

The incident began at approximately 5:55 p.m. Saturday at 200 E. Wilson Ave. when officers made a traffic stop on a suspected DUI. When they approached the driver he fled northbound, according to a news release from the Salt Lake City Police Department.

Officers did not follow, but soon after heard a loud crash near Salt Lake Community College, located at 1575 S. State St.

They spotted the vehicle, which the driver had crashed in the parking lot east of the college after impacting the barriers, traffic sign and tree.

The suspect fled from the vehicle on foot and containment was set up. Koyom was located soon after and taken into custody without incident.
