Update: Missing hiker with dementia found safe

BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah, Aug. 6, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Search and rescue crews and a helicopter were searching the Donut Falls area for a 70-year-old hiker with dementia who went missing Sunday morning.

Later Sunday, Unified Police tweeted:

“Good news! At 5:45 PM missing 70 year old hiker was located in the Laurel Pines area of Big Cottonwood Canyon. He is in good condition.”

The man, who is Chinese and does not speak English, got separated from his group on the Donut Falls trail at approximately 11:30 a.m., Unified Police Detective Ken Hansen told Gephardt Daily.

His family called 911 when they discovered he was missing, Hansen added.
