WEST HAVEN, Utah, March 24, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A 57-year-old Roy cyclist is in critical condition Thursday after being hit by a minivan in West Haven, according to officials.

Weber County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Troy Windsor said the man was riding a bicycle northbound on 1900 West near 1550 South at about 6:50 a.m. when a woman driving a gray minivan struck him. The woman, who is in her 20s, was the only occupant of the minivan.

Windsor said the man may have been crossing the street at the time, and that darkness and the fact he was wearing dark clothes may have been a factor in the crash.

The bicyclist was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital in critical condition, Windsor said. The driver was unhurt.

Windsor said authorities are still investigating the crash, but it does not appear that speed or impairment were factors. He added that it appears likely the man was not wearing a helmet.
