BLUFFDALE, Utah, March 23, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A Bluffdale home sustained extensive damage Thursday night in a blaze that took more than an hour to extinguish.

Bluffdale Fire Chief John Roberts told Gephardt Daily the emergency call was received at 6:43 p.m.

Not long after fire crews arrived at the single-family home in the area of 15000 S. Rebellion Court (1070 West), they upgraded the fire to a two-alarm.

When the additional units arrived, though, the fire was brought under control and the extra units were cancelled. Roberts said the fire was completely out by 8 p.m.

He said the fire appears to have started in the main-level living room of the approximately $650,000 home, and officials were still trying to determine the exact cause at 11:30 p.m.

The family of two adults and three children was displaced by the blaze, and the Red Cross was at the scene to provide assistance to them.

No people were injured, but the family’s dog died as a result of the fire.

Roberts said the damage estimate is in the $150,000-$250,000 range, and crews were “in the middle” of salvage and overhaul at 11:30 p.m.

He said as far as the cause of the fire goes, “we haven’t ruled anything out,” and the investigation will probably continue well into Friday morning.

In addition to the Bluffdale Fire Department, crews from Unified Fire Authority and South Jordan Fire Department responded.
