Man Crashes Stolen Car Into Emery County Home After Deputy Shoots At Him During Chase

EMERY COUNTY, Utah, June 16, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect involved in a high-speed chase while driving a stolen vehicle crashed into a house after being shot at by a Sanpete County Sheriff’s deputy Thursday in Emery County.

SCSO deputies were notified by dispatch of a stolen vehicle traveling west on State Route 31 from Emery County into Sanpete.

Multiple agencies responded to the area when deputies located the suspect entering Fairview at a high rate of speed.

Deputies said the suspect refused to respond to their multiple attempts to stop him when one of the deputies fired a single shot at his car. Deputies continued to follow the suspect along 400 North until he driver lost control and crashed into a house at 300 West.

The suspect sustained minor injuries in the crash, and was not injured by the shot fired. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he was treated and released before being taken to the Sanpete County Jail.

Investigators have not ruled out drugs or alcohol as factors in the incident at this time.
