Police: Draper man in serious condition after being beaten during aggravated robbery

DRAPER, Utah, April 11, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A 32-year-old Draper man is in serious condition after a suspect entered his house, beat him with a blunt object and robbed him, police said.

Draper Police spokesman Sgt. Chad Carpenter said in a news release the male suspect entered the residence at 497 W. Sunland Drive at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The victim, a 32-year-old male, was in the shower at the time. As he got out of the shower, the suspect was standing in the room and made threats to the victim.

“The suspect proceeded to assault the victim with a blunt object, causing serious injury to the victim,” the news release goes on. “After assaulting the victim, the suspect tied him up. The suspect rummaged through the victim’s house and vehicle, taking some cash. The suspect left the residence shortly after.”

The victim was able to get to his cellphone and call 911. Draper Police officers arrived and heard the victim yelling for them to break in the front door. The officer forced entry into the house through the front door and rendered aid to the victim until paramedics arrived.

“Based upon information obtained through the investigation, we are confident this is not a random act and the suspect specifically targeted the victim,” the news release concludes. “We feel the community is not in danger.”

Gephardt Daily will update this developing story as information becomes available.
