SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 1, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The driver of a stolen car rammed two state Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division vehicles while fleeing from officials Wednesday afternoon.

Charlie Roberts, MVED spokesman, said officials started following the stolen car at North Temple and Redwood Road (1700 West) at approximately 2 p.m. When officers pulled in front of the stolen car to stop it, the driver rammed the officer’s vehicle.

Roberts said nobody was injured, and it wasn’t immediately clear whether the officer was inside the vehicle when it was hit, or had exited the car.

The driver of the stolen car then fled south on Redwood Road. At California Avenue (1300 South), another MVED car attempted to stop the suspect, and the suspect rammed that car, too. That officer was also uninjured. It was not immediately clear the extent to which the MVED vehicles were damaged.

Roberts said the suspect then fled, and was not apprehended. It’s not yet clear whether he fled on foot or in the stolen car.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.

The Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division of the Utah State Tax Commission licenses and regulates automobile dealerships, salespeople, crushers, transporters, dismantlers, and body shops. It investigates motor vehicle fraud and other crimes, such as auto theft, chop shops, odometer fraud and salvage vehicle fraud.
