WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Dec. 11, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A chase involving police and a red Mustang was terminated when speeds exceeded 80 mph on city streets Sunday night.

West Valley City Police Lt. Steve Burke said a red 2000 Ford Mustang that was stolen out of Murray on Saturday was spotted in a 7-Eleven parking lot at 8:22 p.m. Sunday.

When the officer attempted to make contact, the driver fled, setting off a brief chase at 60 mph and reaching 80 mph near 3200 West and 2100 South. That’s when the officer terminated the chase, rather than risk the safety and welfare of anyone who might be in the area.

The Mustang has Utah license plate B387RY and was being driven by a Caucasian male, Burke said.

Anyone who sees this vehicle should not approach the driver, but is asked to call police dispatch at 801-840-4000 or dial 911.
