UPDATE: SALT LAKE CITY, March 12, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – We spoke to Eric Ballaine this morning to get an update on his condition. He said he is still in a good deal of pain and the bruising is starting to come out even more. He said the police are still looking for the suspect but do not have any new information.

SALT LAKE CITY, March 11, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Taylorsville resident Eric Ballaine last night woke up in a pool of blood having been beaten unconscious after attempting to tow someone’s car.

Eric 1The 20-year-old, who has worked for a towing company for less than a month, was called to Lennox Apartments in Midvale around midnight to tow a car that didn’t have a parking permit.

He exited the tow truck and heard a voice say “Hey.” “I didn’t get to turn around all the way,” he said. “I was knocked out cold and woke up half an hour later in a puddle of blood. There were skid marks next to my head.”

His tow truck was running, the door was open, and the car he had been going to tow was gone. Ballaine could not remember anything except his first name, and called 911. When Midvale City police officers and an ambulance arrived around five minutes later, they took his wallet so they could identify him. He was taken to the IHC on State Street for X-rays, where they found no broken bones. He does, however, have a dislocated jaw, bruising and road rash.

Eric 2“The police said they think the perpetrators may have kept going after I was knocked out, because I have multiple wounds to the head,” he said. Ballaine, who was released last night with a concussion, said he intends to press charges. Ballaine described the car as a black Toyota Corolla with Aftermarket rims.

The towing company he works for said they are concerned for his well-being.

“We’ve got very little information,” Lt. Justin Hoyal of the Unified Police Department told Gephardt  Daily. “The victim was getting ready a black car, somebody came up from behind him and hit him, which knocked him unconscious. The only suspect description we have is male. That is all he could tell us. There was at least one male there.”

The suspect was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in fair condition by Unified Fire.

The Police Department is asking that anyone with information call 801.743.7000.
