WEST JORDAN, Utah, Sept. 15, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A car and a pickup did not survive a house fire in West Jordan on Saturday, but family members, two dogs and a guinea pig did.

“It was heavy smoke and a fully involved fire,” Fire Captain Chris Trevino, West Jordan Fire Department, told Gephardt Daily.

“The son was trapped in the basement, but he broke a window and let himself out.”

Additional firefighters arrived from South Jordan and Unified Fire Authority. The blaze was mostly contained to the garage, and heavily damaged a passenger car and a pickup truck. Additional damage was done to the house’s roof and attic space, Trevino said. Damage done to the residence and garage was estimated at $150,000 he said.

The house also was filled with smoke. Fire officials rescued the family’s two dogs and one guinea pig.

No one was injured in the fire except for the son, who suffered lacerations when he broke the basement window, Trevino said.
